All over the world, Easter is celebrated in different ways. It could be a quiet service in the local Church or a family gathering. That is unless you come from a little town in Greece called Vrontados on the island of Chios. In this unsuspecting town, Easter is celebrated in the form of a fireworks battle.
Two rival parishes of Vrontados village fire thousands of rockets every Easter Saturday aiming at the opposing church’s bell tower in a centuries-old tradition.
Here you can see to men loading rockets into a truck infront of Agios Markos church.
All the rockets are neatly arranged before being fired at the Panagia Erithiani church
Here you can see one of the first rockets being launched off the launching platform.
