The following images show a mothers epic quest to rescue her little baby before it falls to its death. Just as her exhausted cub is about to fall from a precipice, its mother comes down beneath him and snatches him up in her jaws.
She then begins the difficult trip back to the top of the cliff where they eventually reach safety.
The whole moving incident was captured by wildlife photographer Jean-Francois Largot, and happened in Kenya’s Masai Mara game reserve.
Clinging on for its dear life, a little helpless lion cub cries for its mother after falling down a sheer drop. After a minute his mother appears on the edge of the cliff accompanied by three other lionesses and a male. The females start to clamber down together but turn back daunted by the sheer drop. Eventually one single factor determines which of them will risk her life to save the youngster – motherly love. Grabbing her cub in her powerful jaws, she climbs back up to safety. A happy ending with a kiss and a “what were you doing?”
