Who knew the Cold War era could be so warm? Welcome to the dream home of Girard “Jerry” B. Henderson. Jerry put a lot of thought into every detail of his new home as he built it in the late seventies. From busy wallpaper to brightly colored carpets and tiles – Jerry was all set. But that wasn’t the best part… What some forget is that during the late 70s, we were still in a cold war with the then nation of the USSR. Planning ahead for a possible global meltdown, Jerry carefully crafted what is perhaps one of the best decorated fallout shelters in the west. From the outside, the home appears to be a typical home in Nevada. But from the inside, one can easily begin to explore the wonderland buried underneath. Let’s take a look!
3970 Spencer Street (near Flamingo Rd.) in Las Vegas, NV looks appears normal
Just your average two-story home, right?
Maybe not…
Here’s the hidden stairway….and elevator!
Going up or coming down?
After working hard at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and Avon cosmetics, he built a house that would last…even a nuclear blast!
The idea of living underground was not abnormal for that day.
This “yard” competes with most above-ground resorts. It comes complete with a putting green, swimming pool, 2 spas, 1 sauna, dance floor, a bar and a rock-look-alike BBQ.
The great “outdoors” has dimmable controls for each time of the “day” or “night.”
Pretty in pink! (Much like Blast from the Past)
Then State-of-the-Art…
Throne Room
Extensive Living Room
All they needed was a disco ball!
The home was sold recently…
For $1.4 Million
Given that there’s a “normal” 2 story house above ground
And 3 bedrooms below…
That’s almost 2 for the price of 1.
What a hoot of a deal!
Thank goodness for Jerry – and the rest of us – the Cold War came to a peaceable end. Hopefully his planning staved off any possible need for something like that…unless of course, the zombie apocalypse lets loose.
