No one could have prepared moose hunter Greg Zubiak for a surprise find on this weekend. While the moose remained safely hidden from Greg’s scope, what unexpectedly came under his care were 20 abandoned puppies. Huddled together for warmth in a box, Greg instinctively knew what to do when he found them. He immediately removed his own gear and gave it to them to keep them warm. The hunting was over for the day from that point on, but the journey with the puppies had only just begun.
Photo where Greg Z first discovered the pups.
The puppies were about 3-6 weeks old.
Greg knew he couldn’t just leave the dogs where they were – they would certainly have been eaten by coyotes.
With local shelters already full, word got out quickly that the dogs were in need of a home. Volunteers drove from many distances to take the puppies home.
The puppies were terribly hungry and, unfortunately, had lots of worms.
With the right care, they are now on the right track.
